ComView SM
ComView SM is designed to give you complete control in managing dial-up access to your appliances. It does this by allowing you to use a secure web browser to ‘turn on’ its modem to either allow dial-up access; or to ‘turn off’ its modem to completely disable the dial-up connection.
ComView SM integrates a high-performance 32-bit security network processor, a V.92/56K global modem, a serial port, a 10/100 Ethernet port, a suite of networking security features, and user-definable access control management software in a small, standalone hardware device.

ComView SM uses username-password pairs and modem callback for user authentication. On successful connection, ComView SM authorizes user access to either serial port or specific IP addresses according to the defined access profiles. For accounting purposes, ComView SM logs user accesses with date and time stamp for each logon session. ComView SM also captures and stores session data in log files for auditing purposes.

The sophisticated techniques used in implementing ComView SM make it a very flexible solution to address the access security requirements and concerns in various deployment scenarios for remote administration of serial and IP managed appliances. Whether you are an end-user or a service provider, ComView SM is the solution for your secure access needs.

ComView SM Applications

Secure dial-up access to serial & IP network administered equipment

A network support center is able to securely access a remote ComView SM over a dial-up network using PPP to access equipment connected to its serial or network ports.

Secure network access to serial administered equipment
A network support center is able to securely access a remote ComView SM over an IP network using a VPN connection. Once the VPN connection is established, the ComView SM serial port and the associated connected equipment can be accessed.

Secure serial-to-serial connectivity over IP network

Using the ConnectCV software utility in conjuction with ComView SM, a serial-to-serial connection can be established over an IP network between a support center PC and equipment connected to the serial port of the remote ComView SM. This allows legacy serial port-based management tools to be used across a network, regardless of the location of the remote equipment.

Locally controlled dial-up access for remote administration & support
Modem access to ComView SM can be locally controlled to enable on-site personnel to determine when dial-up access can be carried out. This can be a particularly useful access control mechanism especially where infrequent remote administration and support services are delivered.

Back-up emergency dial-up access to equipment
ComView SM can be installed to provide emergency dial-up access to serial or network based equipment. Added protection can also be provided through the local access control capability to prevent authorized access attemps while the ComView SM is idle.

Secure, non-invasive access to equipment with built-in remote access
ComView SM can provide a secure interface between equipment with built in remote access capabilities and the network. This enables access security to be easily implemented without having to make any changes or upgrades to the equipment.

Secure, consistent interface for different types of site deployment requirements
ComView SM is able to interface with many differnet types of serially and network connected equipment each of which is accessible using the same user interface. This helps improve the effectiveness of support by simplifying the remote access interface across all site deployments requirements.
